Greetings and welcome to the happywishesimages.com website. Our Hindu faith imparts a valuable lesson about respecting all creatures, and transcending boundaries. Even within the realm of other living beings, serpents hold a revered position in the tenets of Sanatan Dharma, or the eternal religion. Numerous mythological narratives vividly illustrate the pivotal roles serpents have played.

According to sacred scriptures, a unique bond exists between Lord Bholenath (Shiva) and serpents. This bond is signified by Lord Shiva’s adornment of the Vasuki Nag around his neck. It is also understood that the Nag community initially did not participate in the worship of Lord Shiva, rendering his elevated status even more significant.

Diving into the Shiva Purana, we discover that Vasuki, the regent of the serpent realm, displayed unwavering devotion to Lord Shiva. During the momentous churning of the ocean, Vasuki’s pivotal role in tethering the churning rope underlines his significance. Impressed by Vasuki’s dedication, Lord Shiva bestowed the unique boon of gracing his neck as an emblematic ornament. This narrative solidifies the profound interconnection between Lord Shiva and serpents within the tapestry of mythological beliefs.

A fascinating aspect is that encountering a serpent before beholding Lord Shiva is considered an embodiment of Shiva’s blessings. Engraved within the annals of Puranic lore, the genesis of all serpentine entities can be traced back to the womb of Kadru, the wife of Rishi Kashyap. Kadru’s prolific motherhood gave rise to a myriad of offspring, including renowned figures such as Anant, Vasuki, Takshak, Karkotak, Padm, Mahapadm, Shank, Pingala, and Karkaddu.

Daksha Prajapati’s daughter, Kadru, manifested a deep-seated devotion that endeared serpents to Lord Shiva. Those who wholeheartedly channel their reverence towards Lord Shiva’s sacred persona are perpetually enveloped in his benevolence. As we part ways, I extend my farewell with the hope that your day remains auspicious and filled with blessings. Thank you.

One day, the eldest daughter-in-law requested the other Female members of the household.to accompany her in collecting yellow clay for a construction project. They set off with their digging tools, spades, and hoes to gather the clay. However, their task took an unexpected turn.

As they were digging, a serpent suddenly emerged from the ground. The eldest daughter-in-law immediately attempted to strike the snake with her hoe to protect herself. Witnessing this, the youngest daughter-in-law intervened and pleaded for the snake’s life, reasoning that it was innocent and didn’t deserve harm. Moved by her compassion, the eldest daughter-in-law spared the snake’s life. But as they were returning home, another snake appeared at the site.

The younger daughter-in-law addressed the snake, saying, “Please don’t stay here. We will be back later, and you should go now.” Following her words, they left the snake behind and returned home. However, upon remembering her promise, the younger daughter-in-law returned the next day with everyone to the same spot. Surprisingly, the snakes were still there. In a friendly tone, she addressed the snake as “brother.” The snake responded, saying that he would spare her due to her previous claim of him being her brother.

The younger daughter-in-law acknowledged her mistake and requested forgiveness from the snake. In a gracious gesture, the snake proclaimed that he would henceforth consider her as his sister and he would fulfill any wish she desired. The snake clarified that had she lied, he would have punished her severely. With time, the snake transformed into a human and visited her family, asking for his sister’s return.

Amid confusion from the family, the snake insisted that he was her brother from a distant relationship, who had left the family in his childhood. The family’s doubts were put to rest when he produced valuable gifts, including gold, silver, and jewels. These offerings convinced them of his claim, and he took his sister back with him. Intriguingly, the elder daughter-in-law, driven by envy, prompted her to bring back even more riches from him.

Accepting the challenge, the snake brought a broom made entirely of gold. Meanwhile, the younger daughter-in-law possessed an exquisite necklace adorned with diamonds and pearls, a piece that caught the attention of the queen. The queen requested the king to obtain this necklace for her. The king commanded his minister to bring the necklace, warning of consequences if the younger daughter-in-law resisted.

Reluctantly, she handed over the necklace to the queen. Distressed, she turned to her snake brother for guidance. Together, they devised a plan. When the queen wore the necklace, the snake transformed into a snake again, coiling around her neck. The queen shrieked in horror, and the king summoned the younger daughter-in-law to explain this seemingly magical feat. Composed and confident, she clarified that the necklace had transformative properties that only manifested when worn by someone else.

Intrigued and convinced, the king rewarded her generously for her wisdom. With newfound wealth and prestige, the younger daughter-in-law returned home. Envious of her fortune, the elder daughter-in-law taught her husband a lesson about envy and honesty. She shared the story of the snake brother and how he had helped her amass her wealth. Impressed by her virtue and wisdom, the husband was inspired to honor the snake deity and express gratitude.

This episode marked the inception of the Nag Panchami festival, celebrated during the month of Shravan. On this occasion, women acknowledge snakes as brothers and offer prayers. The festivities vary across regions and traditions, with reverence for snakes being a common thread. Rituals, prayers, and feasting symbolize the importance of snakes in mythology and the significance of virtues such as compassion and honesty.
